Officials and employees of yearpur Union Parishad have protested against recently published reports and videos alleging corruption against Union Parishad Secretary Mohammad Afzal Hossain.
In a written statement, they said the money transaction shown in the circulated video was wrongly linked to corruption. According to them, the cash was related to trade licence fees of the Union Parishad and had been kept in a drawer as part of the regular accounting process.
Mohammad Afzal Hossain said the Union Parishad’s income and expenditure accounts are prepared according to official rules and regulations. He said anyone with questions or doubts regarding the accounts can have them verified through the appropriate authorities.
He also alleged that an interest group secretly recorded videos and took photographs during the preparation of the accounts and later circulated them on social media to create confusion and serve their own interests.
The Union Parishad officials and employees urged the media to verify the facts and the full context before publishing reports. They also called for any allegations concerning financial transactions to be investigated through the appropriate authorities.
